BMW i8 launched in India at a price tag of Rs. 2.29 cr.

  • BMW i8 now made its debut in India. The hybrid electric supercar at an exorbitant steep price tag of Rs 2.29 crore ex-showroom,across India.The car is built on an eco-friendly platform and gets organic fibres and leather dyes. There is also lots of carbon-fibre in lots of places including the chassis.
  • Power: The BMW i8 is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre BMW twin-power turbo petrol engine which is combined with intelligent energy management system.
  • The rear wheels are powered by BMW’s new three-cylinder 228bhp 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which is hooked up to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The front axle uses a 129bhp electric motor powered by a mid-mounted lithium-ion battery pack.
  • The combined power output thus stands at  357bhp – enough to rocket the i8 from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds and on to a electronically limited top speed of 249kmph.
  • It promises to not only be fast and have impressive handling, but also to be exceptionally fuel-efficient—in the right circumstances, though. Following the trend of the i3, the i8 is the second model in the “i” lineup of BMW plug-in cars.
  • In terms of performance, when the vehicle runs on both the power sources, the i8 accelerates from 0-100kmph in mere 4.5 seconds and returns impressive fuel efficiency of 40kmpl.
